Hardly a humble celebration.

I made a prediction 7 years ago in a blog post that our innate hypocrisy would ensure that words which didn't mean what we really intended to say would soon acquire new meanings. Just two days ago, the Queen said she was 'humbled and touched' by the celebrations.

To understand the full context of what I said and the facts on which I based my prediction, you have to read the blogpost I wrote 7 years ago:

Language, Truth and Hypocrisy

I will make yet another prediction: by the turn of this century, it won't be enough to say you are 'humbled' by an honour given to you. You will say you are 'humiliated'.  I won't be around to see if my prophecy will come true but I am fairly certain it will.
